If I'm using a lead-free solder what temperature should the Quick 100-4C solder pot be set to?
It does depend on the lead-free solder alloy, but for an alloy such as our low SAC alloy G501 solder pellets which is predominantly Tin, the solder pot should be set to approximately 50 - 70°C higher than the melting range of the solder. In the case of the G501 solder pellets which melt at 217 - 227°C the Quick 100-4C should be set to 270 - 300°C.
Can the Quick 100-4C pot be used for the removal of enamel from wires?
Removing enamel for wire preparation requires high operating temperatures of 450°C. Running the Quick 100-4C solder pot on a continuous setting of that high will shorten the life of the element. We also do not recommend setting the temperature control to the maximum for the same reason. Look at the solder alloy you are using first to determine its melting temperature and increase the pot by 50 - 70°C.
